This year, for the first time, the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) is being conducted in two parts-JEE Main and JEE Advanced.
The preliminary results of main Joint Entrance Examinations (IIT-JEE) for admission to prestigious Indian Institute of Technologies (IIT) which was held on April 7, 2013 have been announced on Tuesday.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the JEE main 2013 and over 1.5 lakh students shortlisted with Tuesday's results and they are qualify to appear for JEE Advanced examinations which is scheduled to be held on June 2, 2013 and conducted by IITs.
Over 14 lakh candidates appeared for the JEE main across the nation held at 81 cities. The scores obtained in the JEE main (Tuesday's results) 2013 will help students to get admissions in the National Institutes of Technology (NIT) and the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) and some other deemed universities.
For the first time the pattern of conducting the JEE has been divided into two parts, JEE Main and JEE Advanced. This year Ministry of Human Resource Development has replaced all engineering entrance examinations with a singe JEE. The candidates of JEE will be eligible to get admission in the 15 IITs and NITs across the nation.

Colleges that also consider JEE results:
IIT Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad along with Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Rae Bareli, Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) at Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram and Indian Maritime University (TS Chanakya, Navi Mumbai, Mumbai campus, Marine Engineering & Research Institute, Kolkata, National Maritime Academy, Chennai, Marine Engineering and Research Institute, Mumbai and Visakhapatnam) also take in students on the basis of JEE results.
What next
Those who have cleared JEE Mains and aspiring to appear for JEE Advanced - 2013, should register online at http://jeeadvonline.iitd.ac.in or jeeadv.iitd.ac.in during 8 May to 13 May, 2013. After the online registration, candidates must pay the examination fee as applicable through challan (generated during registration process) of all SBI branches having core banking solution ( CBS) on or before May 13 May.
